[SERVERS] Cratos replacement

The cratos server, after four years of continuous faithful service, is experiencing issues with the primary drive handler. We have brought a new cratos online to replace it, and migrations from the old cratos to the new will begin on Friday, April 27, at 8 PM Eastern. As the server names will remain the same, no coding changes will be required for references to the hostname. If you have any questions related to these migrations, please contact support.

UPDATE: the cratos copy processes have been terminated, due to issue with either the new cratos or with the copy subroutines (or both). For now, the sites that have been copied are being repointed back to the original cratos and we will make a determination as to the disposition of those accounts this week. Notifications will follow to account holders for migrations.

[SERVERS] Dali replacement

The server dali is experiencing intermittent, random load-related issues. We will be relocating all sites on the dali server to a new server on an emergency basis. The new server will also be called dali, so no changes will be required for coding that references the server name. Migrations will begin Friday evening, April 27, at 8 PM Eastern. If you have any questions related to these migrations, please contact support.

[NETWORK] Isolated network issue, March 21, 2012

We are currently seeing an isolated network incident primarily affecting traffic that passes through one particular Level3 node in Atlanta that is intermittently unresponsive. The remote monitor happens to pass along this route and is reporting multiple servers down/service failures. All servers and services are up and running normally. We have notified our upstream about this issue and will be monitoring things manually until this issue is resolved. If you are unable to reach your site(s), a traceroute will likely show your traffic is routing along this same path. Unfortunately, there is no resolution we can offer for this issue, as it relies on action from our upstream. We will post updates (if any) as we have them.

Update: all traffic has returned to normal.

[SERVERS] Triton upgrade

All sites currently residing on the triton server will be migrated to the newer, larger triton beginning Saturday, March 10. Sites will remain up and operational during the migration process. No action is required for these relocations unless third party DNS services are in use. We will attempt to identify any sites utilizing such services and provide the new settings to be entered at those locations to repoint services to the new server. If you are certain that you have any such service in use, please contact us for the information for resets, but do not make any changes until after the migrations are complete. If you are not certain, or would like to verify that no action is required on your part, please contact us and we’ll check the settings in use for your domain(s).

If you have any questions related to this hardware replacement, please contact support via the usual means.

[SERVERS] Kernel updates, March 9-11, 2012

We will be running routine kernel updates on the servers beginning Friday, March 9, at 8 PM Eastern and working through the weekend until all updates are complete. Total impact time will be 1-3 minutes for the reboot required to finalize the new build on each server.

If you have any questions, please contact support via the usual means.

[SERVERS] TANSY: Server issue/restores

This afternoon we experienced issues on tansy that led to a reboot and a filesystem check. At that time, it was returned to service and all services were functional without issue. This evening, due to actions by someone at the NOC, the server was rebooted once more and due to the actions performed, the server will not longer boot. We will take that up with the appropriate people at the NOC tomorrow. Tonight, we have remounted the backups in another server and will restore those backups from the last run to cayenne while we rebuild tansy. It may be necessary to rebalance cayenne by moving some sites back to tansy once the rebuild is complete. If so, we will notify the affected clients for that relocation. Our apologies for this rather large inconvenience. We are currently taking steps to streamline the process of dealing with filesystem checks that may be required when a server is rebooted.

[SERVERS] Monet: replacement and retirement

On Saturday, December 3, beginning at 8 PM (Eastern) we will be migrating all monet-based accounts to the new replacement monet. If you are managing your own DNS at a third party location, please contact us so we can provide you with the new records to enter for your site(s). Please do not make any changes to third party DNS records until the migrations are complete, as this will render sites and/or email unavailable. If you are utilizing the serverwide certificate on monet, no changes will be required as the server name will remain the same.

If you have any questions related to this, please contact support via the usual means.

[GENERAL] Client system update

On Saturday, December 3, beginning at 8 PM (Eastern) we will be updating the client system. This update will bring with it a new look and more intuitive controls on the client side, along with certain updates on the back end for us. All current profiles will be unaffected by the update and will remain valid once the update has completed. The client system will be unavailable for less than five minutes for direct login during the update routine. Support requests sent via email will still automatically generate helpdesk tickets during this period.

If you have any questions related to this update, please contact support via the usual means.

[SERVERS] Wyeth, Mondriaan, Magritte: retirement and replacement

On Friday, December 2, beginning at 8 PM, accounts on wyeth, mondriaan, and magritte will be migrated to new servers. Sites on mondriaan and wyeth will be relocated to the new mondriaan, and sites on magritte will be relocated to the new magritte. Those of you managing your own DNS elsewhere will need to update IP settings at those locations; if you are managing your own DNS, please contact us so the new settings can be provided to you. Please do not make any updates until the migrations are being done (or have been completed). Doing so will render functionality tied to the site(s) inoperative. If you have a site/sites on wyeth, and use the serverwide certificate, references to wyeth will need to be changed to mondriaan once the copy process is complete.

The older servers and the new servers are running the same mySQL and PHP versions, so there are unlikely to be any issues with applications as sites are copied over. However, if you do encounter any issues, please let us know immediately so we can help get them worked out.

If you have any questions about this, please contact support via the usual means.
